ABOUT
DOING WHAT WE CAN
Our Team
We are a research team developing a strategy to mitigate the problem of food insecurity in Karamoja.
Our team combines language skills and local knowledge with a set of rigorous methods to deliver programmes that can help households that are failing to get enough food to eat become self-sufficient by setting up cottage industries and building a strong support network.

Our Funding
Our work is funded by personal resources and private donations.
We use personal funds and private donations to make one-off cash transfers to failing households that are in urgent need of food assistance. Other failing households receive a monthly cash transfer directly from private donors to help them establish cottage industries in order to become self-sufficient.
Monies entrusted to us by private donors are also used to support the good neighbour programme.
Our Operating Cost
We are a not-for-gain venture. This means that we do not receive a wage for the work we are doing.
Only field assistants receive a basic stipend for days worked every four weeks. An additional monthly amount is budgeted for fuel and oil change for transporting field workers to the field and back.
Fieldwork operating cost is drawn from personal and undesignated donations and from contributions made to Doing What We Can.
Our office operating cost is drawn from both internal and external contributions.
Our total operational cost each month is about £170.00 (USh.815,000). Get in touch to help us find funding for this work.
Our Enterprise Status
We are a small unincorporated entity that is exclusively not for profit. As our annual income from external donations is below the government threshold, we are not required to register with HMRC.
